How much does it cost to have an EV charger installed?
A home EV charger installation is priced as two separate things: the wallbox and the electrical work to feed it safely. The wallbox has a list price you can look up. The installation does not, because it depends on the cable run from your board, the state of that board, and the earthing arrangement. That is why Handyman Algarve does not publish a euro range for EV charger installation in the Algarve. Quotes are free and need three photographs.
Two numbers, not one. The wallbox is a product with a price you can look up in an afternoon. The installation is a piece of work on your specific building, and it is the part that varies by a factor most people do not expect until two quotes arrive and they are nothing alike.
What the installation half is actually paying for
- The cable run. From the board to where the car parks. Ten metres inside a garage is one job. Thirty five metres from a first floor apartment board, out through a wall, along a facade and down to a parking space is another, and the cable itself gets thicker as the run gets longer.
- The route. Surface trunking on a garage wall, or chased into render, or through a courtyard that needs digging and reinstating. The digging and the making good are frequently the largest single line.
- The board. Whether there is a free way to take a dedicated protected circuit, or whether the board is full, ancient, or lacking the protection the charger needs.
- The earthing arrangement. How the property is earthed determines what protection the installation requires. In older Algarve houses, and especially in rural ones, this is the question that most often changes a simple job into a larger one.
- Commissioning. Setting the current limit, load management if fitted, the app or connectivity setup, and testing it with the car actually plugged in.

Why no figure appears on this page
Because the installation costs published for other countries do not transfer: grants, earthing standards and typical housing stock are all different. A number borrowed from a UK page and shown here would be worse than the honest answer, which is that your figure depends almost entirely on the distance from your board to your car and the state of that board.

Before you accept a quote
Ask whether the wallbox is included or supplied by you, whether the price includes the protection device the charger needs, whether making good after any chasing or digging is in there, and what current the installation will actually deliver once your contracted power is taken into account. That last one is the difference between a charger that fills the car overnight and one that fills it overnight only when nothing else in the house is switched on.
